U14 Lions win table topping clash

Mowbray Rangers Lions come out on top in table topping clash against rivals Thurmaston Magpies to put them in pole position to claim another league title, a 3-0 win which to highlight Mowbray's quality and title winning credentials. A wonderful setting for a high quality game of youth football with the sun beating down and the pitch looking in excellent shape saw the home side flying out the blocks. It took little over 2 minutes for Mowbray to take the league when a corner found club captain Adam Radford unmarked in the box to hammer a volley into the net to make it 1-0. Mowbray's bright start continued a few minutes later when forward jai Wedgwood found space on the left wing to play in number 10 brook Isherwood who slotted home to make it 2-0 and Mowbray were flying! The first half played out with home side well on top and bar a strong save from goalkeeper Henry Jones Thurmaston didn’t threaten the score line. The second half commenced and the domination continued from the lions with them hitting the bar twice, a goal that was ruled out for offside and many chances that magpies keeper did very well to keep the score at 2-0. Again travelling magpies offered little to threaten the score line. The third and final goal came 5 minutes from time when midfield Bayley Purkis flicked a header over magpies defender on to onrushing forward jai Wedgwood who coolly slotted the ball left footed into the bottom corner to seal a very convincing win against the team who were top of the league at the start of play. Manager Clarke and coach Isherwood hailed their entire squads professionalism and hard work after the game and now sees Mowbray sitting top of division 3 with 2 games to play. The double dream is still alive for the club as lions travel to division 1 winners Aylestone Park in the semi final of the league cup in 2 weeks time. Although Lions go into the game as underdogs it’s believed that if they perform to their highest potential they could cause a big upset. Regardless of how the rest of the season pans out Mowbray rangers lions have had a superb campaign and will be very proud of any outcome.
