U14 Lions roar into League Cup semi final

Mowbray rangers lions under 14’s travelled to division one side Quorn FC in the quarter finals of the league cup on Sunday (10th) and after a thrilling game came out 4-3 victors to book their place in the semi finals. Rangers started the game very much on the front foot looking to get in the game early knowing they were the underdogs. After a bright start for Mowbray it was the home side Quorn who took the lead with a sublime free kick that clipped the bar on its way into the back of the net. Leaving stand in goalkeeper Connor hodges stranded. The away side quickly responded to equalise after a superb run from winger bayley purkis who the played in striker jai Wedgwood who cooly slotted in the equaliser. 1-1. Mowbray found themselves going into half time behind after another Quorn free kick found its way into the bottom corner to make it 2-1. Mowbray started the second half in deficit but not out of the game by a long way. The equaliser soon came after half time. A wonderfully whipped in corner from midfielder Luke Betts was met at the back post by in form striker Wedgwood to make it 2-2. In a bad tempered second half from the home team Mowbray began to turn the screw. The third goal came from substitute tallen Burt after he raced clear of the Quorn defenders to the round the goalkeeper to slot into a empty net. 3-2 to the underdogs! The game clinching goal came soon after when Quorn failed to clear a corner and the ball found its way to midfield luke Betts who smashed the ball towards goal and found the bottom corner via the post to make the score 4-2 to the visitors. Quorn set up a tense finale after scoring with 10 minutes from the end to make it 3-4 but the Mowbray boys stood tall and battled their way to the final whistle sparking jubilant scenes from the Melton side and their supporters! Mowbray are now in the hat for the last 4 of the competition as well as being top of division 3 to set up a exciting climax to yet another successful season. Manager Clarke praised all the boys efforts and commitment and highlighted how proud he was of the performance.
