V Glenfield (County Cup)

Mowbray Rangers U13 Jags kicked off a cup game against Glenfield. A fixture in the past that has produced lots of goals as both sides play fast paced football. The early exchanges where dominated by the defence as Dolby and Bartley in the central defence nullified the early raids by Glenfield as they tried to do quick one touch paced passes through the defence. Bartley with a superb tackle took the ball off the attackers toe and looking calm passed to Aldridge who transition the play with neat feet to Worby who made a diagonal ball to a running Tyler on the left wing. Tyler who drove the ball in to the box, but Rangers were unable to meet the cross. It did how ever show how quickly defence turned to attack. The Glenfield keeper took the resulting kick and made the centre circle. Worby was alert to the poor Glenfield players control won the ball and skipped past an advancing Glenfield player. Worby looked up seeing the goal the keeper was still outside of his six yard box, decided to chip him from just outside the centre circle! The ball flew through the air up then slowly seemed to come down over the goalkeeper desperate moves backwards and dropped in to the goal. It was a calm piece of insight and skill that is ever seen on a football pitch and Worby warmly received his teammates congratulations. Glenfield stung but this made a move down the right and from the resulting corner scored. Mowbray Rangers gathered, however were in fine form and Darby Mcellard who chased every lose ball was rewarded with a corner as he broke down the right wing from right back position having been played a neat one two with Hurst -Butler. The ball was crossed in from the resulting corner and Tyler running in met the ball, to make it 2-1. Glenfield remained dangerous and with the last kick of the first half made it 2-2. Rangers came back on for the second half fired up. Faulkner made a fantastic and incisive run having broken up the Glenfield attack on the edge of the goal, noticed a gap which he drove, with grit and determination, the ball down the Glenfield left at pace, cleverly selling a dummy he passed the left winger, as the left back approached Faulkner knocked the ball past him and ran in to space behind the Glenfield defence. The central defender was then advancing as Faulkner was in the outside of the box nearing moving towards the corner he whipped in a lopping shot over the keeper toward the goal. As the ball stated to meet the line Bruce-Chapman made sure from less than 1 yard. The congratulations was shared between the two. Faulkner, Aldridge and Worby were dominating the midfield in this half and a smart ball through from Aldridge was picked up by Worby to make it 4-2. This tipped the game for as Glenfield pushed forward they left gaps. Ross pushing forward from left back made it 5-2. In a similar move down the left Homewoods neat pass played in Grant who was causing Glenfield problems and was fouled in the box, and a penalty was awarded. Ross placed the ball on the spot and fired in to make it 6-2. Young and Grant in the last few minutes combined to make it 7-2 as Young neatly placed the ball past a deflated keeper.
